Quick Links: Orange County
1) Orange County Vector Control (OCVCD)
The OCVCD is one of the best-funded districts in the state. They provide extensive free services to stop public health threats.
- Free Rodent Inspections: A professional inspector will visit your home (exterior) to identify rat entry points and give you a checklist for repairs.
- Red Imported Fire Ants: In some parts of OC, the district treats fire ant mounds for free because they are an invasive species.
2) Senior “Handy Helpers” Program
Offered through various city community centers (like the City of Irvine and Huntington Beach Senior Services), these programs connect seniors with volunteers for minor repairs.
- How it helps: Ask for help with “Pest Exclusion.” This includes installing door sweeps, patching screens, or caulking sink gaps to physically stop insects from entering.
- Eligibility: Typically 55+ or disabled residents. Contact your specific municipal senior center to verify open enrollment.
3) Fair Housing Council of Orange County
If you are a low-income renter and your landlord refuses to treat a roach or bed bug infestation, this is who you call.
- Services: They mediate disputes between tenants and landlords. They can send an official letter citing California Health & Safety codes, which often scares negligent landlords into action.
- Phone: (714) 569-0823
4) Private Rebates & Discounts
Orange County has high competition among exterminators, which is good for you.
- “Switch” Rebates: Many local companies offer a “Switch and Save” credit (e.g., $50 credit) if you switch your service contract from a competitor to them.
- AARP Discounts: Major providers like Terminix often honor AARP memberships for a percentage off annual plans. Always ask before booking an inspection.
